IN/memory of/VALDEURA JOSIAH/SYLVESTER SMITH/who was born Feb. 13th 1831/entered Davidson College/Aug. 1849, graduated with the/first honor from the Eumonian/ Society August. 1851, died at/Yorkville Sept. 12th, 1855 aged/21 yrs. 7 mo. The day preced/ing his death he said to a friend/he was going to a house not ma-/de with hands eternal and on hi/gh and said to his mother, weep/not for me.
